Living and Working in the Bay of PlentyThe coastal areas provide opportunities to surf, fish, hire a boat or just enjoy the relaxation of the beach, while the inland areas offer forests, lakes, and tumbling waterfalls and of course the volcanic beauty of places like Rotorua. The Bay of Plenty region and especially Tauranga has been the fastest growing area in NZ during the past 6 years and it still is. Therefore its economy is going strong and unemployment is very low. Tauranga has a prosperous agricultural area specialising in the growing of Kiwifruit and avocados. There are also vineyards and orchards with citrus fruit. There is also substantial dairy, beef and sheep farming. More inland we have pine plantations alongside a lot of native bush. A very important part of Tauranga is the Port, which supplies and unloads a wide range of ships, including containerships. Other main industries you will find in the Bay of Plenty include transport and logistics, engineering, manufacturing, construction, pulp & paper, mining and IT. Tauranga is a city of 120.000 people, but with a small town feel. The numerous cafes, bars and restaurants all lend to a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The area has the second highest recorded sunshine hours in the whole of New Zealand and regularly hosts cruise ships at the busy Port of Tauranga. Tauranga has a theatre which hosts performances ranging from classical concerts and ballet to Jazz festivals and plays. Tauranga also hosts many sports and music events and other outdoors and arts festivals, especially during the summer months.
